The unspoken problem of vaginal dryness
Welcome to the place that talks about the stuff no one else wants to talk about.
I want to talk about vaginal dryness. There, I said it. Vaginal Dryness. Vaginal Dryness! Yes, welcome to the place that talks about the stuff no one else wants to talk about.
My name’s Georgina Langdale and I am the founder of Archeus, makers of NatFem Balm. Every product Archeus has made has evolved out of women, like you, asking me if I can make something to help them with skin, or sleep, or emotion or yes, dryness issues.
So, what does vaginal dryness mean for you? Did it take you by surprise? That awful feeling that suddenly things don’t feel right ‘down there’ anymore?
Are you here because of menopause, or illness, or immune disorders or maybe even breast feeding that is making things get sore and uncomfortable?
You’re not alone. In fact, 40 - 60% of women going through menopause experience vaginal dryness. Oh, and let’s be clear here – when I talk about vaginal dryness, I also mean the whole delicate area of labia, vulva and vagina.
40 -60% of women going through menopause experience vaginal dryness.
Finding help can be really hard when no one talks about the problem. Vaginal dryness sucks. It really hits a number of taboos and so nobody-talks-about-it. And I just think that’s not fair and, at the same time, I totally get why it is so hard to do. It is so, so personal.
But here, at Archeus we can talk about. And we do talk about it. And we talk about it like real women talking about real stuff. Because that's who we are and what we do.
So, what does vaginal dryness mean for you?
Vaginal dryness and discomfort can occur for a whole number of reasons including:
- Changes that come with the menopause, be it naturally occurring, or medically induced.
- Treatments such as chemotherapy;
- Immune disorders like Sjogren’s Syndrome
- Conditions like Lichen Sclerosis
Until you get it, you really have no idea what it’s like. Let’s not gild the lily - it’s horrible. Well it is, isn’t it?
First up there’s the physical feeling. I’ve had women tell me they feel like their skin splits when they walk. Walk! Forget the nights of passion, this is about daily life. This is about going to work, doing the shopping, caring for families. Maybe that’s happening for you at the moment?
Another description is a feeling almost like there is broken glass in your bits. A kind of searing, burning pain, sharp, cutting pain. Can you relate to that too?
And then there’s the sex thing. Heartbreaking. Isn't it just so incredibly hard for women who have had a pleasurable sex life and looked forward to moments of intimacy with their partner, to find themselves wincing when touched, let alone penetrated. Do you know what I mean?
I know this because I’ve been one of those women too. But I also know there is help at hand.
The creation of NatFem Balm came about a few years ago because of one woman who was not embarrassed to talk about this problem. Hallelujah! She came to me and asked if I could help her. "Yes. Yes Yes, I'd love to help" I said!
I love figuring out ways we can work with nature for our own health and well-being and I've always felt comfortable working in areas other people might feel 'icky' about. The reality is there's nothing icky about the female body. It's beautiful and wondrous and changes happen. And that's natural.
I spent a long time researching plants and ways in which nature could help make those changes a bit more comfortable and I use slow and gentle (and ancient) techniques to create my products and NatFem has gone on to help women all over the world. I am really proud of what I’ve created and how it is helping so many women now (including me!).
Does it work? A lot of women tell us 'Yes!'. But rather than me talk about it.....
I’ll leave the last word on that to some of my customers:
“The NatFem Balm is quite frankly a godsend for the lady bits! I have been purchasing it for sometime now. Prevents the “rubbing raw with sandpaper feeling” of those delicate parts, also great for more intimate moments. Very grateful for this product Georgina” – Rose
“Love it better than what doctors gave me” – Heather
“I have Lichen Sclerosis and thankfully I watched tv at the right time and saw Georgina talking about her products, so I purchased the NatFem Balm. I have found NFB absolutely fabulous in keeping my Girl Places soothed and moist. Highly recommended by Me :-)” – Lynda-Marie
“This is the first product that I have tried that actually works. No more itching, burning or sticky discharge. After so many GP visits I had all but given up. Thank you.” – Jenny
“A beautiful product. Elegant and soothing - wonderfully helpful.” – Gina
“A wonderful product which I wish I had known about earlier” – Shirley
“Excellent. Really really good, I would recommend to any lady heading into the MPause part of their lives!!” – Jude
“Gentle and feels very natural on sensitive areas. Will buy again. A very good product with nothing nasty/chemically on the ingredients.” – Marilou
“Nice texture and blended natural ingredients. A little goes a long way.” – Diane
PS: How do you use NatFem Balm? Easy just put a little of it on your fingertips and apply to the affected area. You can pop some internally as well. It can be good to put some on in advance of intimacy and afterwards. For day to day help, use it as needed.
