KEEPING IT NATURAL
The Archeus ethos is all about working with the healing power of nature.
We look in Nature's medicine chest, rather than use synthetic ingredients. NatFem is packed full of beautiful botanical ingredients and the balm also contains certified organic beeswax.
To know something is to love it and so we thought we'd introduce you to the ingredients so that you can see what they look like, and what their benefits are.
NatFem Balm was created with a very specific and sensitive brief: it needed to be effective and gentle enough to use on vaginal and vulval tissue. But also, we wanted to use only the finest and most beneficial botanical ingredients available.
Each ingredient in NatFem Balm has been selected for a particular benefit and for the synergetic blend of the combination of all ingredients working together to give you the comfort you are looking for.
The majority of our ingredients are certified organic, or organically grown. Some are produced right here in our gardens.
Here are some of our ingredients:
Helianthus annus (Sunflower) oil
Sunflower oil is such a friend for the skin. it has been shown in studies to support healing. It is deeply hydrating and very nutritious for the skin. It is easily absorbed and hypo-allergenic.
We use certified organic sunflower oil.
Olea europaea (Olive) oil
Olive oil is just fabulous for skin because it helps to moisturise and heal skin and has anti-inflammatory properties. Here's an interesting thing: the more bitter the taste of olive oil, the more polyphenols there are in it, and they help reduce inflammation.
The other thing that is important to us as we make the balm is that olive oil has a very long shelf life which means it is nice and stable for you the customer!
We use certified organic cold-pressed olive oil.
Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) oil
Jojoba is deeply hydrating and very nutritious for the skin. It is easily absorbed, leaving a lovely light feel to the skin.
Highly regarded for its anti-ageing properties plus its antimicrobial. It is superb for sensitive skin.
We use certified organic jojoba oil.
Cera alba (Beeswax)
Beeswax is known for its healing properties. It combines well with multiple ingredients.
When added to skin care properties, beeswax acts as an emollient, drawing moisture to the skin and sealing it in. As a result, it protects skin from damaging environmental factors. Beeswax also contains vitamin A, which is beneficial in softening and hydrating dry skin and in cell reconstruction.
Beeswax is made by bees for their honeycomb foundations and structure.
Humans have been using it for thousands of years and it has been found in the tombs of Egypt in wrecked Viking ships, and in Roman ruins.
We use certified organic beeswax.
Cocos nucifera (Coconut) oil
Coconut oil is a friend for dry skin. It helps enhance its protective barrier functions and is known to have an anti-inflammatory effect.
In an in vitro study, coconut oil was active against Candida albicans (C. albicans), suggesting it could be a treatment for candida.
We use certified organic coconut oil.
Calendula officinalis (Calendula) extract
Calendula is one of Nature's great all-rounders. Its gorgeous bright yellow to orange petals and the sticky resin in its leaves and stems are packed with healing properties your skin will love.
It is ideal for dry, dehydrated and irritated skin. It stimulates the production of collagen, and has antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal properties.
It does so much to help us, yet is so mild and gentle. Traditional prescribing includes: topically for wounds, acne, chaffed skin in infants, cracked nipples, eczema, leg ulcers, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, anal eczema and inflammation, vaginal discharges.
We use certified organic calendula flowers.
Stellaria media (Chickweed) extract
Lovely little chickweed, or ‘starweed’, grows pretty much everywhere. It loves cool damp places and really is good enough to eat! You can include young leaves in salads, or you can cook it like spinach.
We use it in NatFem balm and NatFem Oil beause it is highly regarded as a plant to help soothe hot, itchy skin conditions, redness in the face and for ‘tempering the heat of the liver’. In fact it is one of our favourite plant healers Traditionally it has been used topically as a treatment for eczema, psoriasis, itchy skin, rashes, burns, ulceration and boils, hemorrhoids.
A few years Georgina (our founder) was chatting to Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat Pray Love about herbs and plants and Elizabeth hooted with laughter at the name Chickweed, saying it should be 'Chick Weed'. Whatever the emphasis on the pronunciation of the name, one thing is for sure and that is it's fab for our lady bits!
We use certified organic chickweed herb.
Plantago major (Plantain) extract
Another superb wound healer! Plantain is also known as ribwort and is noted for its ability to help draw out infection and heal wounds.
It is also seen as having an affinity with mucous membranes (the German Commission E, which is the scientific advisory board for herbal ingredients recommends it for use in mucousal and pharyangeal disorders). It is used to help with mouth and throat disorders (such as ulcers and sore throat) as well as the vulval and vaginal area.
It has been widely used as a herbal remedy and treatment throughout time.
We use certified organic plantain herb.
Centella asiatica (Gotu kola) extract
Gotu Kola is a very important herb in ayurvedic medicine. Its key actions are as a wound healer, anti-inflammatory and vein tonic.
It is prized for helping with things like psoriasis, stretch marks. It aids circulation and supports the nervous system. It has antiviral, antimicrobial, antifungal and antibacterial properties.
